How much does SEO cost in India?

By Nihanth Guntur · 2026-09-27

SEO cost in India depends on four things: the scope of the site, how much content is written each month, how much technical work is needed, and how results are reported. There is no fixed market rate, so compare what each package actually includes. Our own price is public: SEO Autopilot is ₹20,000 a month (about US$230) for one site, with no setup fee and no minimum term.

What decides SEO cost in India?

The price follows the work. An agency or freelancer is selling hours and expertise, so the quote rises with the number of pages that need attention, the volume of new content, the depth of technical fixes and the effort spent measuring and explaining results.

It helps to be clear about what you are not paying for. Google’s own guidance on hiring an SEO states that Google never accepts money to include or rank sites in its search results, and that it costs nothing to appear in organic results. Every rupee of SEO charges in India therefore buys work on your site, not a placement. If a proposal cannot tell you what that work is, you cannot judge its price.

In our experience, four drivers explain the difference between two quotes for the same site:

  • Scope. How many pages and templates are in play, and how many sites. A 30-page service site and a large catalogue are different jobs.
  • Content volume. How many new or rewritten pages are published each month, and who researches, writes and edits them.
  • Technical work. Crawl and index problems, broken templates, structured data, page speed and, now, whether AI crawlers can reach the site at all.
  • Reporting. Whether you get a screenshot of rankings or a re-measured audit that shows what changed and why.

SEO pricing in India: how the cost drivers compare

The table below sets out each driver, what makes it cost more, and the question worth asking before you sign. It deliberately contains no market price bands: we have not surveyed Indian agency prices, and we would rather you compare scopes than trust an invented average.

Cost driverWhat pushes the price upWhat to ask
ScopeMore pages, more templates, more sites, several languages or locationsWhich pages and templates are covered each month?
Content volumeMore posts, original research, subject-matter reviewHow many pieces a month, and who writes and checks them?
Technical workTemplate changes, crawl and index fixes, structured data, firewall and CDN settingsWho makes the fix: you, your developer or the agency?
ReportingRepeat audits, before-and-after scoring, plain-language explanationWhat is measured, how often, and against what baseline?
AI search visibilityCrawler access testing, llms.txt, schema written for extractionDo you test whether AI crawlers can reach the site, or only read robots.txt?

Two quotes can differ a great deal and both be fair, if one includes technical fixes and content while the other covers only on-page recommendations. The useful comparison is price divided by the work actually delivered.

What do low-cost SEO packages leave out?

A low monthly fee is not a problem in itself. The problem is a package that looks complete but leaves out the work that moves results. These are the gaps we check for when we review a package:

  • No technical fixes. A report lists issues, but nobody changes the template, so the same problems appear month after month.
  • Content without editing. Pages are produced in volume with little original input, which is exactly the pattern Google’s spam policies warn against.
  • Links bought in bulk. Directory or network links sold as a monthly quota.
  • No Search Console access plan. Either no access is requested, or full write access is requested on day one.
  • Rankings reports only. A list of keyword positions with no baseline, no explanation, and nothing about indexing or crawl health.

The content and link gaps matter most, because they can cost you more than the fee. Google’s spam policies define scaled content abuse as many pages generated for the primary purpose of manipulating search rankings and not helping users, and list using generative AI tools to generate many pages without adding value for users as an example. The same page defines link spam as creating links primarily to manipulate rankings, and states that sites that violate the policies may rank lower in results or not appear in results at all. A cheap package built on either tactic has a real downside cost.

Is a low SEO cost in India worth it for a small business?

Sometimes the cheapest option is doing it yourself. Google’s hiring guidance says plainly that if you run a small local business, you can probably do much of the work yourself.

That is honest advice, and we agree with it for a simple local site with a handful of pages. You can set clear page titles, write useful service pages, keep your details consistent and watch Search Console. Google’s SEO Starter Guide is the best free place to start, and it makes a point worth remembering when you compare packages: creating content that people find compelling and useful will likely influence your site’s presence more than any of the other suggestions in the guide.

Paying for SEO makes sense when the work outgrows your time: many pages, a template problem only a developer can fix, a steady publishing schedule, or a need to be found in AI answers as well as on Google. In that case, a low price that skips those things is not cheap. It is simply a smaller job than the one you need done.

How to judge an SEO proposal before you pay

Use Google’s own quality bar. Its hiring guidance gives a short list of red flags, and they make a good filter for any SEO quote in India or abroad.

  1. Reject guarantees. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and that if someone guarantees first place, you should find someone else.
  2. Ask what the audit contains. The same page says an SEO audit should give you realistic estimates of improvement and an estimate of the work involved.
  3. Grant read access first. Google advises granting only read access to Search Console at the audit stage, not write access.
  4. Question tool claims. Be wary of any tool described as approved by Google; Google says it does not evaluate or endorse third-party SEO tools.
  5. Ask how they will help. Google reminds site owners that they are responsible for the actions of any companies they hire.
  6. Check the timeline. The Starter Guide says some changes take effect in a few hours and others could take several months, so a sensible proposal describes milestones, not overnight results.

If a proposal passes all six, you are comparing like with like, and price becomes a fair tie-breaker.

What does SEO Autopilot cost, and what is included?

SEO Autopilot costs ₹20,000 a month (about US$230) for one site, with no setup fee and no minimum term. It is our only published price, and we state it so you have one fixed point when comparing SEO pricing in India.

It covers one site of roughly 20 to 500 pages, with 10 posts a month and up to 6 findings fixed a month. The full breakdown is on our SEO packages page. Before any engagement, you can run our free AI visibility checker: it reads your robots.txt rules for 11 AI crawlers and requests your homepage once with each crawler’s user agent. That is the checker’s own request, not the real crawler’s, and it covers the homepage only, so treat it as a first look rather than proof.

What we have seen

On one SEO Autopilot engagement, a US healthcare analytics company on WordPress behind a firewall, 21 of 39 pages had no H1 because the post template rendered the title as an H2. One template change took pages with exactly one H1 from 9 of 39 to 30. The same firewall returned 403 to OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s search crawlers on every page, while the client’s monitoring tool reported all sixteen AI crawlers as accessible because it read robots rules instead of sending requests. We wrote up that firewall case in detail.

Between the baseline frozen on 15 July 2026 and the re-measure on 18-19 August 2026, SEO Health moved from 46.55 to 67.45 and AI Visibility from 18.35 to 66.35. Performance fell from 48 to 28, because removing the firewall rule took the CDN edge cache with it, and AI review signals did not move. We report that alongside the gains, because a proposal that only shows the good numbers is not telling you what the work costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SEO cost in India per month?

There is no single market rate. The monthly cost depends on scope, content volume, technical work and reporting. Our own SEO Autopilot plan is ₹20,000 a month (about US$230) for one site, with no setup fee and no minimum term.

Can I pay Google to rank higher in organic search?

No. Google states that it never accepts money to include or rank sites in its search results, and that it costs nothing to appear in organic results. What you pay an SEO buys work on your site.

Should I trust an SEO agency that guarantees first page rankings?

No. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google, and that if an SEO guarantees first place in search results you should find someone else.

Can a small business do SEO without hiring an agency?

Often, yes. Google says that if you run a small local business, you can probably do much of the work yourself. Hiring makes sense when the site, the content schedule or the technical fixes outgrow your time.

What access should I give an SEO company at the start?

Start with read access to Search Console. Google advises granting read access for an SEO audit and not granting write access at that stage.
