NEET preparation from Class 11 starts with one decision: whether you treat it as a two-year project from June of Class 11, or scramble to compress it into Class 12. Every student who has struggled with NEET in my experience made the same error — they let Class 11 pass without purpose.
The short answer
NEET has 180 questions drawing equally from Class 11 and Class 12. Biology alone is 360 marks out of 720. Start Biology on day one of Class 11, not January of Class 12. This guide gives you the month-by-month structure to do that correctly.
Why Class 11 Sets Your NEET Score
NEET UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency (neet.nta.nic.in), tests Biology, Physics and Chemistry from both Class 11 and Class 12 in equal measure. The 720-mark paper breaks down as follows: Biology 360 marks (90 questions), Physics 180 marks (45 questions), Chemistry 180 marks (45 questions).
The Class 11 syllabus contributes roughly half the final paper. Neglect it and you voluntarily give away 300+ marks before the exam begins. Class 12 is already crowded — Telangana Intermediate board exams (bie.telangana.gov.in) in March, practicals, and new chapters to learn simultaneously. Students who complete Class 11 thoroughly enter Class 12 with only new material to cover, and can dedicate two full months before NEET to revision. Students who left it undone spend Class 12 in catch-up mode and never get ahead.

NEET Preparation from Class 11: Month-by-Month Roadmap
This roadmap assumes you start in June of Class 11, which is when coaching batches in Hyderabad open. Do not wait for July. The first batch that fills is the top batch — and that is the batch worth being in.
Foundation: establish your routine before syllabus pressure builds
Target 6 focused hours of study per day: 3 hours coaching, 3 hours self-study. Start Biology immediately — Diversity in Living World (Monera, Protista, Fungi, Plant and Animal Kingdoms). These chapters are factual and learnable without prior background. Begin Physical Chemistry alongside (Mole Concept, Atomic Structure) and Physics with Kinematics. Build the study discipline now, before the syllabus gets difficult.
Build momentum: complete the first biology wave
By September end, complete all five Class 11 Biology units: Diversity, Structural Organisation, Cell Biology, Plant Physiology and Human Physiology. In Chemistry, complete Chemical Bonding and States of Matter. In Physics, finish Laws of Motion and Work-Energy-Power. Take a 45-question Biology chapter test every Sunday — your NCERT-direct accuracy should be above 80% before October.
First mock test and gap analysis
By November, complete the Class 11 Biology syllabus once and begin Physics (Gravitation, Properties of Matter) and Chemistry (Thermodynamics, Equilibrium). Take your first full-length NEET mock test in November — all 180 questions, 200 minutes, under exam conditions. Your score does not matter. What matters is the gap analysis: most students find Biology is reasonable, Physics is weak and Chemistry is patchy. That gives you 17 months to fix those gaps. Scholarship test season and revision cycle
January is scholarship test season in Hyderabad. Allen, Aakash, Sri Chaitanya and Narayana all run tests that can reduce coaching fees by 20–80% — a good score saves Rs 30,000–1,20,000 over two years. Your NEET preparation is the preparation; do not study separately for them. Complete Class 11 Physics remaining chapters (Oscillations, Waves) and start Organic Chemistry fundamentals (Hydrocarbons, IUPAC Nomenclature). Run a second full mock in January and register for at least two scholarship tests before December closes.
Class 11 board revision and Class 12 preview
February and March are dominated by Telangana Intermediate board practicals and pre-finals. Allocate 4 hours to board preparation and maintain 2 hours of NEET revision daily. Use this window to consolidate Class 11 Biology notes — create one-page summaries for each chapter. These summaries save you in the final month before NEET when you need to revise 29 Biology chapters in 30 days. NEET Preparation from Class 11: Subject-Wise Strategy
Biology — 360 marks, start here
NEET Biology is NCERT Biology, word for word. Every year, 60–70 questions are answered directly from NCERT text, diagrams and tables. The trap is reading paraphrased study material instead of NCERT itself. Read the textbook line by line, annotate diagrams and memorise tables. Supplementary books are for practice questions only.
Finish all five Class 11 Biology units before December — roughly 15 chapters. At one chapter per week from June, you finish by October with two months for revision before Class 12 begins.
Physics — 180 marks, build from mechanics
NEET Physics rewards genuine understanding over formula memorisation. Class 11 contributes roughly 23 marks across Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Oscillations and Waves — achievable marks if your foundations are solid. The NCERT Physics textbook is sufficient for NEET. Do not add reference books until NCERT is exhausted.
Chemistry — 180 marks, split across three branches
Physical Chemistry is calculation-based. Inorganic Chemistry (Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, d-block, p-block) is NCERT memorisation — students who read it thoroughly score well. Organic Chemistry is where Class 11 students lose the most marks because they defer it to Class 12. Begin Organic Chemistry basics (General Organic, Hydrocarbons) in July of Class 11, not later.
Hyderabad Coaching for NEET from Class 11
In Hyderabad, NEET coaching is largely integrated — most students attend intermediate college and NEET coaching under one roof rather than separately. Sri Chaitanya and Narayana Group dominate this market and run the largest NEET batches in the city. Allen Hyderabad and Aakash Institute operate dedicated coaching centres alongside regular schools.
The batch matters more than the institute name. A top NEET batch has 80–100 peers all preparing at the same level — that peer pressure is worth more than any individual teacher. When evaluating options, ask for batch-wise NEET results, not institute-wide results. Top batches outperform bottom batches at the same institute by 80–100 marks.
EAMCET Medical (conducted by TSCHE) is the fallback for students who do not secure a government MBBS rank through NEET. A student who is NEET-ready will find EAMCET manageable with two weeks of preparation before the June exam. Prepare for NEET first — the overlap is significant.

3 Mistakes That Derail NEET Preparation from Class 11
Reading notes instead of NCERT
NEET questions are written directly from NCERT — specific lines, specific tables, specific diagrams. Coaching notes paraphrase. Paraphrased answers do not match the options. Read NCERT as your primary source; use notes only to flag what to revise.
Treating Class 11 board exams as the priority
NEET has no board marks component — only the NEET score and a Class 12 board minimum of 50% aggregate. Students who spend October to January focused purely on board preparation enter Class 12 with a gap in their NEET foundation. Pass your boards comfortably — do not let them consume your NEET revision time.
Not attempting mock tests until Class 12
A mock test in November of Class 11 reveals weak chapters with 17 months to fix them. A mock test in November of Class 12 reveals the same problems with 6 months left. Students who first sit a full NEET mock in Class 12 regularly describe the experience as "shocking" — not because they hadn't studied, but because they'd never seen the pattern under time pressure. Start mocks in Class 11. The score is irrelevant; the data is everything.
